Hyperliquid Oil Perp Whale: $147M of Brent and WTI Longs Built Into a 7.6% Drop — Published by Buildix, a crypto orderflow analytics platform with real-time VPIN, CVD and whale tracking on the 100 most liquid Hyperliquid pairs.

A single trader held about $147.37 million of crude oil longs on Hyperliquid after Brent posted a 7.63% drop on Monday, according to a position snapshot reported by TokenPost. The whale added roughly $51.78 million of Brent during the selloff and ran both positions at 10x. For traders, the Hyperliquid oil perp has become a place where a macro headline gets priced around the clock, and where one account can be a visible share of the book.

The Hyperliquid oil perp whale position, by the numbers

The Brent leg was valued at about $91.18 million with an average entry of $105.03, an unrealized loss of about $78,700 and a liquidation price of about $86.85, per TokenPost as of 9:52 p.m. ET on November 2. The WTI leg was valued at about $56.19 million with an average entry of $98.23, an unrealized loss of about $876,200 and a liquidation price near $69.67.

The Brent position grew from about 377,000 to 868,800 units, a rise of roughly 130.5%, at a weighted average price of about $104.05, according to an Odaily report republished by KuCoin. Over the same period, the WTI position was trimmed by about $600,000. Lookonchain first flagged the position at 868,840 BRENTOIL and 580,960 CL, worth about $91 million and $56.1 million, as reported by TechFlow.

So this was not a position caught by the drop. It was a position built into it, mostly on the Brent side.

Why oil fell 7.6% in one session

Brent settled at $104.77, down $8.66 or 7.63%, and WTI settled at $96.46, down $7.66 or 7.36%, on November 2, according to Nation Thailand. Intraday lows were $103.28 for Brent and $95.15 for WTI.

The driver was diplomacy. The same report says hopes for a negotiated end to the US-Israeli war with Iran pushed prices lower, with Qatari mediators travelling to Tehran that evening and President Trump saying a deal "could happen." Saudi Arabia also exported more crude in October than in September, according to two of three ship-tracking firms cited in the piece.

The case the whale is betting on sits in the same article. Raymond James analyst Pavel Molchanov warned about the "false dawns" of recent months, attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz have increased, and Goldman Sachs said Brent could reach $140 in 2027 if Gulf output stays 3.5 million barrels per day below its 2025 average. Brent had also closed October at a six-month high, which means Monday's drop erased a war premium rather than a long-term trend.

Liquidation distance and the cross margin math

The useful number for anyone trading against or alongside this account is distance to liquidation. From the Brent entry of $105.03, the reported liquidation price of $86.85 sits about 17.3% lower. From the WTI entry of $98.23, the $69.67 liquidation price sits about 29.1% lower. Measured from Monday's settlement prices, Brent would need to fall about 17.1% and WTI about 27.8% to reach those levels.

Those distances are wider than a naive 10x position would allow, which is consistent with cross margin backed by extra collateral in the account. The practical read: this whale is not one bad headline away from a forced exit. A failed peace process would help it, and a signed deal would hurt it, but neither outcome triggers liquidation on a single day of normal oil volatility.

The same night shows what a tighter account looks like. A separate HIP-3 trader, address 0x40f2, took three partial liquidations on a WTI crude long totaling about $1.49 million, according to KuCoin News. Same market, same direction, very different margin.

How the trade.xyz CL and BRENTOIL perps work

Both contracts are HIP-3 builder markets deployed by trade.xyz. The CL market page lists a maximum of 20x, pricing from the trade.xyz HIP-3 oracle feed tracking spot WTI at Cushing, Oklahoma, hourly funding and trading 24/7 including weekends and holidays.

That last point is the reason this market matters for orderflow traders. Oil headlines about Iran, OPEC+ or tanker attacks do not wait for the Monday open, and a perp that trades through the weekend is where the first price discovery shows up. Hourly funding also means positioning pressure is visible quickly: a book crowded with longs after a 7% drop will show it in funding long before it shows up in a weekly COT report.

It also means a single large account can matter. When one wallet holds about $147 million of notional across two contracts, its adds, trims and margin moves are part of the market's flow, and they are public on-chain.

What to watch on the Hyperliquid oil perps this week

First, watch whether the whale keeps adding or starts trimming. The account already reduced WTI by about $600,000 while adding Brent, so a continued tilt toward Brent is a view on the Brent-WTI spread as much as on oil direction.

Second, watch funding against price. If funding on BRENTOIL and CL stays positive while price fails to recover Monday's losses, longs are paying to wait, and that is the condition where smaller accounts like 0x40f2 get shaken out first.

Third, watch the headlines on weekends. With the Qatari mediation running and both sides signalling openness, the next move in oil could start on a Saturday, and the perp will price it before any exchange-traded futures can.

Buildix lets you follow this kind of account on the whale tracker and check open interest, funding and CVD on HIP-3 markets from the screener, so a $147 million position building into a selloff shows up while it is still building.

One trader is betting that Monday's peace rally is another false dawn. The liquidation prices say the account can afford to wait for the answer. Smaller longs on the same contracts may not.
