Launch Free Terminal →Ripple Prime RWA swaps, announced on October 15, give institutional clients 24/7 exposure to more than 100 stock, index, ETF, metal, energy and currency markets priced off Hyperliquid. According to Unchained, the swaps track perpetual futures listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid, Ripple Prime acts as principal on every trade, and market maker Virtu is already trading them.
The structure is the story. Clients do not touch Hyperliquid. They face Ripple Prime, a prime broker, and the Hyperliquid perp is the reference price. For a trader reading the HIP-3 books, that changes what institutional demand looks like on the tape: it may arrive netted, delayed, or not at all.
How the Ripple Prime RWA Swaps Work
Unchained lays out the mechanics. The swap's value follows a Trade.xyz perpetual on Hyperliquid, the position sits inside the client's Ripple Prime account, and it can be cross margined against the firm's other asset classes. Clients can post Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin as collateral, with availability depending on jurisdiction. Ripple describes the setup as one counterparty with one consolidated view of margin and risk.
CoinCentral adds that cross margining assesses risk across the whole portfolio, so offsetting positions can lower the collateral needed. The product is offered under Ripple Prime's CIV BVI license only, and Ripple says more regions will follow without naming them or giving a timeline, per Cryptowisser.
This is not Ripple Prime's first contact with Hyperliquid. Unchained notes that Ripple Prime added Hyperliquid support in February, and this blog covered its commodity perps access to gold, silver and oil in April. The difference now is the wrapper: a swap with Ripple Prime as principal across a much wider market list.
Why Trade.xyz Markets Are the Reference
Trade.xyz is the HIP-3 deployer behind the reference perps. CoinCentral, citing Bloomberg, describes it as the largest HIP-3 deployer on Hyperliquid, and reports that open interest in RWA perpetual contracts has climbed to $9 billion over the past year. Unchained adds that Trade.xyz already lists an officially licensed S&P 500 perpetual, which debuted in March after S&P Dow Jones Indices granted the license.
The reason a prime broker would reference these markets is simple. Unchained reports that the swaps trade and settle 24/7, weekends included, and that requires a reference price that never closes. Virtu's Scotte Moegling told Unchained that cross margining helps the firm "expand our presence more efficiently as markets move toward round-the-clock access."
For HIP-3 markets, being used as a reference price by a regulated intermediary raises the stakes on price quality. A thin weekend book on an equity perp was once a problem mainly for the traders in it. If swap valuations follow that book, its depth and its funding behavior now matter to clients who never see it.
Principal Flow on HIP-3 Perps: What Shows Up on the Tape
The public reports do not say how Ripple Prime manages the risk it takes as principal. That gap matters for anyone reading the book, so it is worth being precise about what can and cannot be inferred.
If Ripple Prime hedges client swaps on the Trade.xyz perps, institutional demand reaches Hyperliquid as the broker's net hedge, not as individual client orders. Two clients on opposite sides would cancel inside Ripple Prime and leave no trace on the book. One large one sided client would show up as sustained aggressive flow from a single source, likely sized and timed to minimize impact.
If Ripple Prime does not hedge a given exposure, or hedges elsewhere, the swap adds nothing to Hyperliquid volume at all. In both cases the Trade.xyz open interest number understates total economic exposure to those prices, because part of it lives off chain in swap books.
Funding Rate and Basis Signals to Watch
Funding is the cleanest place to look. If hedging flow from a prime broker leans consistently to one side of an equity or metal perp, funding on that market should drift in the same direction and stay there, rather than flipping with retail sentiment. A funding premium that persists through quiet hours, weekends included, is a sign of steady one sided demand.
Basis against the traditional market is the second check. During cash market hours, a Trade.xyz equity perp and its underlying should track closely. On weekends there is no underlying print, so the perp is the price. A weekend gap that resolves toward the perp at Monday's open suggests the perp was leading; a gap that resolves toward the old close suggests weekend flow was noise.
Third, watch for size changes in the book itself. If a new principal starts quoting or hedging in a market, it should show up as larger resting orders near the touch and fewer gaps in depth during off hours. Order book imbalance that stays balanced during weekend sessions, where it used to swing, is evidence that deeper liquidity has arrived.
Reading HIP-3 Orderflow Now That Swaps Price Off It
The practical change for an orderflow trader is that some HIP-3 markets are now inputs to products outside Hyperliquid. That makes their CVD, funding and depth worth tracking with the same care as BTC or ETH, especially on weekends, when the perp is the only live price for the underlying.
Buildix covers Hyperliquid perps including HIP-3 markets. The screener lets you sort by funding and open interest change to spot a persistent premium, and each pair view shows CVD and order book imbalance so you can check whether a move is driven by aggressive flow or by thin resting liquidity. For large single source flow, the whale tracker follows the biggest Hyperliquid wallets and their positions.
Ripple Prime has put a regulated counterparty between institutions and the Hyperliquid book. The swaps will not make that book visible to those clients, but if the exposure is hedged there, the book will carry their footprint, and funding persistence is where it should show first.
