Launch Free Terminal →Intel closed at $92.07 on October 29, reported third-quarter results after the bell, and finished October 30 at $65.76, down 28.58%, per The Motley Fool. On Hyperliquid, the Intel perp did $308 million in 24-hour volume, second only to S&P 500 contracts, according to Hyperliquid data reported by Huoxing Finance via KuCoin News. For orderflow traders, the Intel perp on Hyperliquid is a clean case study in how an equity earnings gap gets traded on a book that never closes.
Intel's earnings gap: from $92.07 to $65.76
The quarter itself was not the problem. Intel reported revenue of $16.51 billion, up 21% year over year, against expectations of about $16.48 billion, and non-GAAP EPS of $0.52 against a $0.40 forecast, per TradingKey. Data center and AI revenue reached $7.3 billion, up 78%, per The Motley Fool.
The guidance did the damage. Intel guided Q4 revenue to $15.0 billion to $16.0 billion against about $17.07 billion expected, adjusted EPS to $0.25 against about $0.44, and gross margin to about 38%, per TradingKey. Management also warned PC weakness could last at least through the first half of 2027, and a disruption at Fab 28 in Israel is expected to cut Q4 revenue by about $300 million.
The move came in stages. Shares fell 23% after hours on October 29, Reuters reported a 25% premarket drop on October 30 per Shattered, and the cash session ranged from $63.20 to $68.77 on 454.9 million shares against a 102.8 million average, per The Motley Fool. KuCoin's report described the close as Intel's worst single day in at least four decades.
Dilution sat under the guidance miss. Intel sold about $23 billion of new stock in August and expects about 5.44 billion diluted shares in Q4, roughly 20% above Q3 2025, per The Motley Fool. CFO David Zinsner said demand for data center and AI products "continues to meaningfully exceed available supply", which is a bullish line that did nothing for a stock priced on the next quarter's margin.
Intel perp on Hyperliquid: $308M volume against $119M open interest
The headline numbers from KuCoin News, as of October 31: $308 million of 24-hour volume in Intel contracts, behind $374 million in S&P 500 contracts, with $119 million of open interest.
Volume at about 2.6 times open interest says most of that activity was turnover, not new positioning. Traders were opening and closing around the gap rather than building a large directional stack. Compare that with a slow trend day, where open interest rises with price and the ratio stays low.
The perp also does not stop when the underlying does. Listed via trade[XYZ], it keeps trading through the closing bell, weekends and US holidays, per Hyperliquid Guide. That makes it one of the few places where the after-hours reaction to the print could be traded on a continuous order book rather than through premarket equity quotes that Shattered described as thin.
The liquidation skew: $7.23M of longs, $39,200 of shorts
Liquidations on the Intel contracts over the same 24 hours totaled about $7.27 million, with about $7.23 million from longs and $39,200 from shorts, per KuCoin News. That is a 99.5% long skew.
Relative to $119 million of open interest, $7.27 million is about 6%. A near 29% gap would have wiped out any long running close to the contract's 10x maximum, per the specs on Hyperliquid Guide, so the small total suggests most longs into the print were sized conservatively or cut before the gap extended.
The asymmetry is the typical earnings pattern. Longs held into a report on a name that had been strong get caught by a guidance miss, while shorts rarely carry enough margin risk on a gap down to be liquidated at all. The tape tells you who was wrong, and here it was almost entirely one side.
Weekend pricing: where the Intel perp sits before Monday
With Nasdaq closed until Monday, the perp is the only live price. A reading on Hyperliquid Guide on October 31 showed INTC-PERP at $64.77, down 9.09% on 24 hours, with hourly funding at -0.0003%, or -2.86% annualized, and the mark at a 0.0929% premium to the oracle. Against the $65.76 cash close, that reading was about 1.5% lower.
Slightly negative funding with the mark close to the oracle says the weekend book is not stretched in either direction. Shorts are paying a token amount, and there is no large premium or discount that Monday's open would have to correct.
Blockworks Research has published a report on price discovery in Hyperliquid's weekend markets, and the Intel contract is a live test of the idea: if Monday opens near the perp's Sunday night price, the weekend book did its job.
Reading earnings gaps on equity perps
Three checks carry over to the next report. First, the volume to open interest ratio after the print: high turnover with flat open interest is a repricing, while rising open interest with price is a fresh trend being built. Second, the liquidation skew, which shows who was positioned wrong going in. Third, the funding sign and mark versus oracle over the weekend, which tells you whether the perp is leaning against the cash close or tracking it.
For the crypto side of the same week, Buildix tracks the wallets behind size on Hyperliquid through its whale tracker, which is where to check whether large accounts were positioned before an event or reacting after it.
Intel's beat on revenue and miss on guidance turned into $308 million of perp volume in a day. The next earnings gap on a HIP-3 stock will likely trade the same way, and the first prints on the perp will arrive hours before the cash session does.
