Launch Free Terminal →Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, agreed on October 29 to partner with trade[XYZ] to bring Hyperliquid perpetual futures to US traders, and it is taking a minority stake in the company, The Block reported. ICE would operate the markets and build dedicated exchange and clearing infrastructure, trade[XYZ] would design the contracts, and Hyperliquid would supply the rails through HIP-3. HYPE moved double digits within hours. For anyone trading Hyperliquid perps, the deal changes who could end up on the other side of the book, and that is the part worth thinking through.
What ICE and trade[XYZ] Actually Announced
The proposed venue would list perpetual futures on crypto, equities, stock indices, commodities and FX, with eligible US customers reaching them through participating brokers, and launch is "subject to approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission," according to crypto.news. No launch date, contract specs or stake size were disclosed.
The CoinDesk report syndicated on Yahoo Finance adds the plumbing. trade[XYZ] signed a definitive agreement making ICE the exclusive operator of its regulated markets. Customers would pass KYC and AML checks and connect through futures commission merchants. ICE will run the retail unit apart from its institutional futures and clearing business, where more than 99% of participation is institutional today.
Distribution is expected through ICE's joint venture with OKX, which has its own approvals pending, per Cointelegraph via TradingView. ICE bought into OKX in March at a $25 billion valuation. ICE CEO Jeffrey Sprecher called the perp markets "additive to our futures markets, not a replacement for them" (The Block).
Stan Druckenmiller posted on X that he is "excited to be an investor in trade(xyz)," and crypto.news reports he joins a small group backing the initiative.
Why trade[XYZ] Is the Partner ICE Picked
trade[XYZ] is the dominant HIP-3 deployer by a wide margin. Its Hyperliquid markets have processed more than $650 billion in cumulative volume since launching in October 2025, and in Q2 2026 it did $202.36 billion, up 79.2% quarter on quarter, with a 95.1% share of HIP-3 volume and $2.96 billion of open interest at the end of June, citing Hyperliquid Research Collective data (crypto.news). Equity perps alone accounted for $58.9 billion of that quarter.
That is a live, 24/7 book with a year of price history on assets ICE already clears in other forms. An exchange operator does not need to bootstrap a retail perp market from zero if it can license the design of one that already trades.
This is the second institutional route onto Hyperliquid rails in a matter of weeks. Payward, Kraken's parent, has proposed regulated US perps through Bitnomial using permissioned HIP-3 markets limited to onboarded, allowlisted customers, and Hyperliquid added optional onchain allowlist features in September (crypto.news). There is also some irony in the partner: ICE and CME Group have reportedly urged US regulators to limit Hyperliquid's operations, according to 24/7 Wall St.
How HYPE Priced the ICE Hyperliquid Perpetual Futures News
Reported moves vary by timestamp, which itself tells you the tape kept running after the headline. CoinDesk had HYPE up about 13% to roughly $91 from a daily open of $80.69, with an intraday high of $92.10 on KuCoin (Yahoo Finance). The Block printed a 15% gain at $91.21. Later, Cointelegraph citing CoinGecko had HYPE above $96, up around 20% on the day and approaching the September record of $97.96 (TradingView).
Whale flow pointed both ways. Lookonchain data cited by 24/7 Wall St. showed five wallets opening longs totaling 597,912 HYPE, about $52.7 million, over a few hours. A separate whale sold 694,310 HYPE, about $53.3 million, over five days. The same piece puts circulating supply near 239 million tokens on October 28, up from about 222 million after a contributor unlock.
Read together, that is a headline-driven bid absorbing distribution that had been running all week. When a large seller is working an order over days and fresh longs arrive in hours, the question is who runs out first. That is a CVD question, not a narrative question.
What Changes for Orderflow on Hyperliquid Itself
Nothing changes on day one. There is no launch date, and the US venue would be a separate regulated market run by ICE with its own clearing. The existing trade[XYZ] markets on Hyperliquid keep serving eligible non-US users around the clock.
The medium-term question is price discovery. If a CFTC-approved venue lists the same contracts designed by the same team, there will be two books on related products: one onchain and permissionless, one behind FCMs and KYC. Basis between them, and which one leads on weekend and overnight moves, becomes a tradable signal. Until US hours overlap fully, the Hyperliquid book is the one that prints first when traditional markets are closed.
For HYPE specifically, Hyperliquid earns a share of every HIP-3 trading fee, as 24/7 Wall St. notes, and fees fund the Assistance Fund buyback. Whether a US venue built on HIP-3 routes fees back to the protocol was not disclosed. That is the detail to watch in any filing, because it decides whether this is a fee story or only a sentiment story.
What to Watch Next
Three things matter more than the next candle. First, the CFTC filing itself: contract list, margin limits, and whether the venue settles onchain. Second, the OKX joint venture approvals, since distribution runs through it. Third, whether HYPE holds above the pre-news open near $80.69 once the headline bid fades, because that level is where the move started.
On the tape, compare spot and perp CVD on HYPE for the session after the announcement. A move led by perp buying with funding climbing is easier to unwind than one where spot CVD carries the weight. Then check whether the five new long wallets add, trim, or sit, and whether the five-day seller resumes. The Buildix whale tracker follows those wallets and the HYPE pair page shows spot versus perp CVD, funding and open interest side by side, which is the fastest way to see whether the ICE bid is fresh money or short covering.
A regulated US venue would bring a different kind of trader onto contracts first priced on Hyperliquid. The book that sets the price when New York is asleep still lives onchain, and for now that is where the flow tells you the most.
